Large Animal Medicine
For appointments and emergencies: 540-231-4621
The Large Animal Hospital provides specialized care for all species of large animals, including horses, camelids, sheep, goats, pigs, and cattle, and utilizes the most recent diagnostic modalities and state-of-the-art technology for both diagnosis and treatment.
In addition to board-certified large animal internal medicine and theriogenology specialists, our hospital is fully staffed 24/7 by licensed veterinary technical support. Designed to handle the most-challenging cases, our facilities include a neonatal intensive care unit, an isolation unit for horses with infectious diseases, and specialized stalls for neurologic cases.
LARGE ANIMAL NEUROLOGY
Large animal medicine clinicians perform neurologic examinations on all large animal species, including horses, sheep, goats, alpacas, and llamas. Diagnostic testing includes aspiration of spinal fluid and analysis, digital radiography, computed tomography (CT), electromyography (EMG), electroencephalograpy (EEG), and muscle biopsy. Consultation with the Neurology Service's board-certified faculty is available.
